As part of the Grow Your Own Garden Course, I led a workshop on making the most of your space. I introduced the basic methods of surveying your garden, using very simple tools. The session introduced how to make a base map and the important things you need to survey when planning your garden, such as microclimates, soil types, human interaction and more.
I then introduced the principles of permaculture that can inform our decision making. The learners got stuck in and did a quick design for the space outside the Feed Avalon office. It was great to see how people grasped the principles and are already starting to think more carefully about where to place things in their garden to optimise beneficial relationships and save time and energy!
